Ever wonder what weight your lamb should be, today? There are so many variables: Days until the fair, Minimum Weight, Max Weight. It's enough to drive a young shepherd batty!

Well MyLamb.com to the rescue. On this page you can compute the optimum weight for your lamb on any given day.

For this chart we use .4 pounds per day for a slow grower, .6 pounds for normal, and .8 pounds for those big boned sheep. Also, I've slowed down the growth rate by .1 pounds per day after they reach 110 pounds. I don't have any scientific data for this but that seems about right to me. In other words, the growth rate slows as lambs reach their ideal weight.

For example, a slow growing lamb at 130 pounds is probably only going to put on .3 pounds a day. However, a fast growing lamb at 60 pounds is probably putting on .8 pounds a day.

For lambs under 50 pounds this chart is probably useless.

If it is only 2 weeks to the fair and your lamb is close to the minimum or maximum weights, you need to seek help quick. Lambs can gain and lose a couple of pounds in one day, easy. This might disqualify you from showing in your fair.
